Frequently Asked Questions title

When is the best time to start treatment?
Children should be seen for their first orthodontic exam by six or seven years old. They should be seen earlier if their dentist notices a problem. Prelimary treatment (Phase 1) is necessary when a serious problem is first observed which relates to eruption of teeth or growth of the jaw bones, usually between 7 and 11 years old.

The best time to start for patients with straight jaws but "crooked" teeth is between 10 and 13 before the deciduous (baby) 2nd molars get loose. Timeliness will simplify treatment and usually make the results more stable.

How long will it take?
Treatment can vary between 6 months to correct a few teeth to over 30 months to correct complex bite problems. The average treatment time is 2 years.

How much will it cost?
Fees vary depending on the treatment time, complexity of the treatment and the types of braces used. Flexible financial arrangements can be made to meet your individual needs. Additionally, special financing programs are available that minimize initial and monthly payments. We also file insurance claims and accept assignment for your convenience.

What appointments are available?
We offer early morning, evening and Saturday appointments. A limited number of appointments are done during business and school hours. The schools understand this and we will provide you with a school excuse. Visits are generally once per month to adjust your braces.

Am I too old for braces?
There is no age limit to undergo orthodontic therapy. We treat many adult patients from 18 to 70. 30% of our patients are adults and this is a national trend. Braces can even be fashionable! We have a variety of cosmetic braces to choose from.

Will the results last?
Dr. Singer plans all treatment with long term stability in mind and has studied a variety of techniques to enhance stability. Our office is unique in that we are the only office to offer a limited guarantee. Retainers used after treatment will enhance stability.

Does it hurt?
We use space-age gentle flexible wires and smaller wire slots in our braces to produce lighter forces and more comfortable treatment. Some adjustments will be uncomfortable for 2 to 3 days but should never be painful. If so, call immediately.

Emergency care availability?
Emergency care is a top priority for Dr. Singer. Patients can reach Dr. Singer or staff at the office, home or by celluar phone 24 / 7.

How do I know my main concern regarding my teeth will be corrected?
We always make sure your chief concern is corrected and you are pleased with your treatment results before we take your braces off.

Will it be worth it?
Orthodontics is an investment in your oral health, appearance and self confidence which will give you lifetime benefits and can save you money on future dentistry. When you consider the role of your teeth and smile in eating, speaking, comfort and appearance, you can appreciate that the cost will be one of the wisest expenditures you'll ever make.
